Biography
Musician and lawyer, John Bruce, is a Mi'k Maq of the St. Georges Indian Band on the west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador. While law pays the bills, his first love has always been music.
At the age of 14, John was already performing on the coffee house folk music circuit in Montreal and Quebec City. Music continued to play a major role in his life even once he returned to Newfoundland and Labrador to open a law practice.
Over the years John has been a fixture in the provincial music scene. He has played with various live acts, provided studio session work, and was an owner/operator of a St. John's recording studio. In the 1990's he founded Rough Justice; a group of other musician/lawyers who would play for charity events.
&Company Volume One is John's first album. The album features collaboration with John's large circle of musician friends from across Canada and as far away as Cuba. It was released in July 2005 and was an immediate local favorite. John says the majority of his original work is contemplations about loving, gambling or dying.
John lives, works and plays in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. When he can escape - you'll find him working on his second album at his farm in the Codroy Valley.
