Biography

Discreet Da Chosen 1 (a.k.a. Leeland Askew) has drawn considerable media attention for his performances alongside some of today’s influential hip-hop acts—The Game and Chamillionaire, Bone Thugs Harmony, Raekwon,112, In Essence, Juelz Santana, Moka Only—and for his appearances on MTV Canada, City TV, and Urban Rush. His diverse background has groomed him to become that rare combination of multi-talented artist and uncompromising social activist.

Discreet uses his diverse background as an Aboriginal African-Canadian to bring a unique worldview to the hip-hop scene. His trailblazing music is imbued with empowerment without the easy glorification of drugs and violence. He welcomes the challenge of crafting each lyric without a single utterance of profanity to create a sound that is awe-inspiringly creative.

His words onstage are what he lives by. Hailing from the Squamish Nation, Discreet takes pride in representing his people with dignity. He embraces the lifelong rewards of a healthy lifestyle, advanced education, and a strong work ethic. As evidence, one only has to look at his graduation from film school, his involvement with Knownwell Product-shuns. Also his C.E.O. position at Snake Eyes Entertainment, Discreet has gained critical acclaim for working with up and coming Native hip-hop acts such as Ostwelve and Rez Official. He has also performed for the NAACP and numerous peace rallies. And he takes time out of his hectic schedule to educate youth on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. He strongly affirms that music should be as much about action, as it is about words and lyrics. He’s actively involved in being a strong leader in his community and sits as a head of board on Squamish Nation Youth Council, and will be running for Chief and Council next term.

Discreet has released two albums - his debut L.P., 'Gemini's Conflict' in 2007, his last L.P, 'Parcel Tongue' which was released in June of 08. His highly anticipated 3rd album, “Storytellin w/ Discreet Friends” was released May. 24th 2010, alongside with his 2nd Music Video. Working with Radio Producer & Music Industry Veteran Suzette Amaya of ThinkNDN 102.7fm & CBC Radio 3 Ab-Orignals – SAMAYA Entertainment is pleased to be apart of Discreet’s path to Success with Marketing, Promotions, Media Relations and Booking.
