Gabby Taylor is a country artist from St. Theressa Point in northern Manitoba. He describes his music as old country in the vein of George Strait, Garth Brooks, and Ronni Milsap.
Gabby released his first CD, entitled Where I Feel Alive at the beginning of 2007 and has seen two of his singles climb the National Aboriginal Top 30 chart, with "You'e the One" and "Cool Me Down" reaching the top spot. Later that year, Gabby also earned "Single of the Year" accolades from NCI FM, beating out "Rez Girls" by Saskatchewan's Black Rain and "Anishinabe Ikwe" by guitar legend Gerry McIvor.
Gabby has performed at smaller community events along with larger venues, including the Centennial Concert Hall during the NCI Jam in September of 2007.
Gabby Taylor was born in Norway House, Manitoba. Gabby is one of 7 siblings of 4 sisters and 2 brothers, him being the youngest. He grew up where music was a big part in the house hold, the only entertainment there was. The fiddle and the acoustic guitar were the instruments played amongst the evenings.
Gabby started singing and playing guitar in his late teens, learning to play and sing along to gospel music. Later on Gabby performed on local TV stations a couple hours on Sundays and then went on performing in gospel jamborees in the surrounding communities of the Island Lake region of Manitoba.
When Gabby first heard the song "If Tomorrow Never Comes" by Garth Brooks, with the passing of his oldest brother in 1992, Gabby started listening and played to country music. Then he went on entering in talent shows in the community's Bannock Festival, Cross Lake's Ernest Monias Talent Showcase and 2004 NCI Jam in Winnipeg.
With the support of his family and friends, Gabby continues to learn to play, sing, and write songs to pursue in music. Influenced by artists such as Garth Brooks, George Strait, George Jones, Paul Brandt, Johnny Cash and aboriginal artists such as Ernest Monias, C-Weed, and Freebird Band.
Gabby enjoys fishing, boating, woodworking, building cabins, riding his snowmobile, snowshoeing, spending time with his family and friends and of course playing his guitar.
Gabby wishes to thank everyone who has supported and the continued support because without you, a dream would be just a dream.
