Biography
Jason Chamakese is Plains Cree from the Pelican Lake First Nation in Saskatchewan, Canada. His strong cultural background and respect for traditional stories and songs played a key role in his discovery of the Native American Flute over a decade ago. He cites Kevin Locke and William Gutierrez as his main influences. However, his parents played the most important role in introducing Jason to traditional songs. When he was a small child, his mother sang traditional songs as she went about her day to day activities. This influence continues still and Jason incorporates his own culture and experiences into his deeply personal compositions. His music has been often described as haunting, tranquil, and timeless. With the release of his first CD entitled 'Midnight at Clearwater, Native American Flute Songs, vol. 1' Jason has set himself on a path that he hopes will lead him to many places throughout the world. He has 7 years of performing experience. He is highly sought after for his entertaining performances and considers his work within schools to be the most important As a fluent Cree speaker and role model, Jason uses his gifts to motivate First Nations youth towards making positive and healthy lifestyle choices.
