Biography

Grammy finalist for 2007, and multi award winning artist, Jimmy Lee Young, continues to surprise the music industry and delight fans. In 2002 Jimmy was nominated, along with co-executive producer/drummer Gil Gabaldon II, for Best New Group at the Native American Music Awards for their first release, Apache. In 2005, for their second release, Maya, Jimmy was nominated for Best Male Artist and Song of the Year, (One Voice One Cry), winning the latter. Within the same week, they returned triumphantly to L.A. to win the First Americans In The Arts Award for Outstanding Musical Achievement. Several months later, they were announced as four time nominees at the Indian Summer Music Awards in Wisconsin, winning twice for Best Classic Rock and Best Country Song. They finished the year with nominations at the L.A. Music Awards, and won at Hollywood's Rock City Music Awards, placing them on the cover of Rock City magazine with other winners.

In 2006, after their streak of awards, Jimmy recorded and released a single, "Anduhyaun", named for the battered homeless women's shelters of that same name in Canada. For this project, Jimmy enlisted some of the biggest names in Native American Music, including the legendary Felipe Rose of the Village People. The song was an instant success, winning two unanimous choice awards at the L.A. Music Awards (Best Spoken Word Single, and World Music Vocalist of The Year, plus other nominations in three separate genres!). The album, which includes a "best of" list of Jimmy's previous releases, also won five nominations at Rock City Music Awards, and won three times for Best Song of The Year, World Artist of the Year and the Native American Heritage Award. It was then announced that Jimmy's song 'Maya", from that CD, was a finalist in the "Song of The Year" category at the 2007 Grammys and all of Hollywood took note. This time they were featured solely on the cover of Rock City magazine. One of Jimmy's goals has always been to conquer L.A. and bring Native American Music to the mainstream.

Jimmy's songs are a catchy mix of pop, rock, country and folk on the backdrop of Native American instrumentation, rhythms and themes. His performances have been described as "fiery" by friend and fellow performer Martha Redbone. Three time Native American Music Award winner Felipe Rose of the Village People, has said "Jimmy's music and lyrics are BEAUTIFUL, he's a real songwriter, that's why he's on the map." Currently, Jimmy has written his next CD scheduled to begin recording in June, 2007. He has written songs for Qua Ti Si, the beautiful songstress from Nashville, the recipient of the 2005 Best Country Album Award at the Nammys, and three time 2007 Grammy finalist. He is also involved in writing songs scheduled for the great Yolanda Martinez, Nama's 2005 Best Female Artist, and has completed and contracted a featured song for the upcoming Felipe Rose CD. He is rapidly becoming one of the most sought after songwriters in Native America.

Currently, Jimmy has been cast in a new film by MTV producer and film director, Chris Martini. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in June 2007. After a particularly magical performance on 5th Avenue in New York, in April 2006, Chris instantly cast Jimmy in the film." It was very strange, to see this magnetic performer for the first time, and watch the audience gradually move closer and closer. They were just spellbound, and I knew he was perfect for the film." Commented Chris.

Jimmy has opened for national acts such as 80's rock icon, Kip Winger, at the world famous Paladino's Club in L.A. He has played at such popular venues as the Whiskey on Sunset Boulevard, and the Swamp Room in L.A. The Lancaster Performing Arts Center (Lancaster, California) has welcomed Jimmy, as well as the Sky Ute Casino, in Ignacio, Colorado. He is a favorite of The Indian Summer Music Awards, performing in both 2005, and 2006, and adding a full stage show at their tribal Oneida stage. In November 2006, Jimmy and Gil were awarded medals by the U.S. Air Force for their efforts at Edwards Air force Base, entertaining for the troops and civilians, and donating shows for Native American Heritage Month. He has performed on television in Los Angeles and live on radio as well. His CD's can be heard on over 70 radio stations in the U.S., Europe and Canada. He is a featured artist by the Kern County, California Library System, where he has donated numerous shows for the benefit of reading programs.

Jimmy is appreciated by fans and industry, native and non-native alike, for his beautifully dramatic performances that leave the audiences spellbound. It is widely known that fans come to his shows and sing the songs word for word. He is also appreciated for an uncompromising professionalism and his untiring dedication to his fans, noted by the time he spends with them signing autographs after each show. As he says, "I stay 'til the last one is gone!" It is family entertainment at it's best.
