Biography

The Kingbird Singers began in the 1960's. They consisted of the late Johnson Kingbird, his brother the late Mckinely Kingbird, as well as Johnson sons and nephews. They traveled through the United States and Canada during the 70's and 80's to many pow wows.

The first three songs on this recording are songs that were heard at the Fort Totten, N.D. pow wow. The late Paul Little and Joe Cumminhey sang these songs. These men taught Kingbird Singers so many good songs in the late 1970s. Some of the songs are from he community of Ponemah MN, family songs and songs made by mark Kingbird.

The Kingbird singers have dedicated this recording to the singers and dancers throughout Pow wow country, and to those who are gone onto the spirit world.

The Kingbird Singers would like to thank Marks granddaughter "Giinew-Ikwe" (Golden Eagle Woman) and the Dow family from Ponemah MN for allowing them to sing their family songs on this recording.
