Biography

Born in London, Ontario on October 28, 1991, Dakota-Metis pop artist Lil Pappie has devoted most of his 19 years to music. Starting out on the drums at the age of 7, Pappie had mastered the piano, electric guitar, slide guitar, harmonica, ukulele, synthesizer, organ, xylophone and banjo by the age of 16.

In 2005, Pappie worked closely with Canadian glam rocker Robin Black, opening for him and for other Canadian rock acts such as Marianas Trench, Faber Drive and Saigon Hookers. And while Pappie has transitioned into pop music, his early glam rock days are still evident in his high-energy live performances.

In 2008, Pappie auditioned for Canadian Idol, making it into the Top 50 and forming a relationship with Orin Issacs, one of the show’s producers. The next year, Pappie worked on a commercial music project with Isaacs. Also that year Pappie wrote, composed, and directed an original musical for the London Fringe Theatre Festival.

Early in 2010, Pappie released his debut original EP, ‘It’s Pappie with an IE, Ozmand with a Z’ spawning one single ‘I Want Chu SSSo Bad’.

In 2010, Pappie was invited to record his latest single ‘Hypnotized’ at Cherry Beach Sound, a world-class recording studio and urban music institution in Toronto, Ontario. Working in a studio where Drake, Usher, Rihanna, Ludacris, Keri Hilson, and Timbaland have all recorded tracks, ‘Hypnotized’ is a unique urban pop track that is a showcase of Pappie's incredible talents. ‘Hypnotized’ was featured in CBC Radio 3 Podcast ‘Ab-Originals’ as one of Suzette Amaya’s hip-hop, rap and urban picks.

Pappie takes his role as role model for Aboriginal youth seriously. He works with Kids Help Phone as a celebrity ambassador, and in May of 2011, Pappie organized a major showcase of music by Aboriginal youth in his hometown of London, Ontario.

In 2011, Pappie joined the Stressed Street family and is currently working on several projects with hip-hop icon Joey Stylez.

In June, Pappie travelled to Winnipeg to perform at APTN’s Aboriginal Day Live for a live audience of over 15, 000.

At 19, Pappie is a talented and well-rounded urban pop artist. As a writer and producer, Pappie is known for his strong hooks, clever lyrics, and ability to create unique beats. As a performer, Pappie's background in punk and glam rock is clearly evident in his live shows. And as a vocalist, Pappie's unique tone is his distinguishing feature as an artist. Always innovating and creating new sounds and spectacles, Pappie has the makings of a pop icon.
