Lorenzo, born Leonard Sumner, is an Anishinabe recording artist from the Little Saskatchewan First Nation, which ironically enough is smack dab in the middle of Manitoba. His music is best described as a “Rez kid’s mix tape” drawing inspiration from the hurtin’ country songs of his parents' radio player, and the experience driven realness of golden era hip hop.

Lorenzo, born Leonard Sumner, is an Anishinabe recording artist from the Little Saskatchewan First Nation, which ironically enough is smack dab in the middle of Manitoba. His music is best described as a “Rez kid’s mix tape” drawing inspiration from the hurtin’ country songs of his parents' radio player, and the experience driven realness of golden era hip hop.
2010 has already been a busy year for Lorenzo- he’s released a hip-hop EP entitled Rez Poetry and worked on his business skills at Manitoba Music’s Aboriginal Music Performers Camp (AMP Camp). The EP features music by industry veteran Geoffrey “Daybi” Parenteau and Montreal-based producer David Hodges. Two of the lead singles “Divine Beauty” and “Fly” reached the number 2 spot on the Streetz FM radio play chart in May and early June of 2010.
The EP has earned Lorenzo the respect of his hip-hop peers and Matt Jost of RapReviews.com states:
“Recorded in his home studio, ‘Rez Poetry’ is direct, raw, emotional. With his vocal tone somewhere between Sen Dog and Baby Bash, Lorenzo can convey both rebellion and resignation, and his writing, flows and choice of beats show him to be a serious rap artist. It would be nice to hear from him again.”
At AMP Camp, Lorenzo spent the week learning about business development and training with a number of great instructors, including vocal lessons with Leela Gilday, song editing with Kinnie Starr, and guitar lessons with dobro master Doug Cox. Since then, he has registered a business for his music and laid out plans to further develop his craft with the assistance of AMP Camp instructor Doug Cox.
