North Bear

Portrait of North Bear

The group North Bear began singing as a group in 2003. We call home the Wind River Reservation located in Wyoming. The name North Bear is named from the 2 tribes that we represent. The Northern Arapaho and Oglala Lakota. The name Mato is the name of our nephew, which means "Bear" in Lakota. The name North comes from our Northern Arapaho people. This came from our tribe being separated during the time when tribes were being put on reservations, which are now the Northern and Southern Arapaho. Presently we live North of them and also because we are called "sky people", thus the name North Bear.

North Bear began with head singer Jermaine Bell and younger brother Luke Bell, along with cousin Abe Thomas. Later joined by younger cousins Norman Iron Cloud and Sam Iron Cloud who sang with each other since they were children. North Bear became a family group and have been together since. Joining the NB family are singers: TyRay Healy, Tyson Flute, Jason Dupree, Lonnie Wise Spirit, Paul Black Bear and Myron Iron Child. With back-up singers Jennifer Fragua and Jasmine Bell.

The North Bear singers would like to give our appreciation to all the dancers and other drum groups as well. We hope you enjoy our music as much as we love singing for you. Many blessings and safe travels to you all. Hahou/Thank You
