Born and raised in the city of Winnipeg, local rap artist/producer Originate, quickly fell into the world of hip hop at the age of 11. Being raised by a family full of musicians, who played Gospel, Rock & Roll an Country. Listening to hip-hop he was able to understand the concept of a different style of music. Living in most urban areas, the young man was forced to adapt to the central area of the city, where poverty and gang violence was most common. During this time, he first heard of rapper Notorious B.I.G, an went on to discover other artists like, Tupac Shakur, Bone Thugs & Harmony, but was most taken by the songs an lyrics of Tupac Shakur. Living as a young teen, Originate was already sucked into the world of hip-hop, due to his peers and the way of the streets. Listening to rap on a regular basis was a part of life, and it wasn’t too long befor he picked up a pencil and paper, causing the 12yr boy to write his first “poetic rymez”. At the age of 17 he was already proficient in the art of writing rhyme’s an “spitting bars”. He then discovered some local talent in the south end city. All who were in the same situation as he was, which was “alot rymes an thoughts, but no microphone or studio”. Hand held microphones and computers was the first step in solving the problem, only to find out that the quality an level of sound had to be upgraded. At the age of 19, Originate was already on the right road of success, by focusing on making his first debut album, with local rapper Teddy Gramz of Real Talk Music. Originate was on his way of making his first professional album, but was only to be arrested same year of his career. Through his trials and tribulations he had a choice of “be in the streets or rap about the streets”. Though his debut album was never released or pressed, he had features on the album such as Bubba B, D-Grimez, Tha Mic, Xplicit & other local artist who are still in the Hip-Hop scene today. With his mind set and his basic knowledge of recording and mixing, he decided to build his own studio. At the age of 22 he began what would be the beginning of his record label (Self Made Ent.) Earning him his old collaborates (Xplicit, , KkwiKk, Rook, G.K Kreig an Isis), to work an record with him. After recording numerous mixtape tracks, the talented Mcee decided” recording wasn’t enough!” He decided that he would take on the harder aspect of music.....production. After putting in two years of production, Originate was able to start, and finnish, his first owned hip-hop album. Oct.15 was the released day of the CD (Expressions Of Hip-Hop). A few weeks later he established himself as a rap artist on (Streetz 104.7 fm), with his debut single “Can’t Stop Me”. The Catchy hook and lyrical flow along with his intensity, also earned him a spot on the play list of (Hot 103 Locals Only) which was played for many weeks, and still continues to be played. Radio exposure on both major radio stations, mixed with being a force in the local hip-hop scene, was another another big step for the up and coming artist. With his intricate style, and energetic flow, Originate continues to elevate the level of delivery and expression. He’s currently working on his second album, which we can expect to be live and real. For the people who listen to rap/hip-hop, you will know not to over look this Mcee, he’s got what it takes to make his mark in Manitoba.
