Portrait of Pat Peltier

Pat Peltier, born August 17th, 1971 and a member of the Wikwemikong First Nation on Manitoulin Island, currently resides in Wikwemikong with his family, but also lived in Toronto and North Bay.

Music was always a part of life growing up as there were many opportunities to go out and watch his father, Albert "Hardy" Peltier (the recent inductee to the Great Northern Opry Hall of Fame) perform with other musicians along with listening to Kiss, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Led Zepplin. But the day that Van Halen’s self titled album came out in 1978 was the day where dreams of becoming a musician came from. And in the later years, the writing styles of Van Halen, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Def Leppard and Collective Soul were major influences in pursuing his own creative writing.

Biography

After spending the teen years dabbling in guitar, and finally taking it seriously at the age of 18, he got together with some local musicians and started to play in community events and bars. Although Pat Peltier enjoyed playing in cover bands and playing the music of his heroes, his heart was into writing original compositions. Throughout the years, he has gained experience with playing the drums, bass guitar and the piano (along with some piano classes as a child) which were all utilized in creating music. It gave him great satisfaction to see people enjoy a piece of music that he had written and also dancing to it, especially if they never heard the songs before. Also, having the opportunity to play some original compositions at some local events and then realizing that the crowd was singing along to some songs gave away to feelings of pride and encouragement to continue on. Performing at the Barrie Jazz and Blues Festival (Rock Nouveau Concert Series) in Molson Park, the Canadian Aboriginal Festival at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, and the 1st and 2nd Homecoming Concert of RCA recording artist Crystal Shawanda were some of stepping stones for having the original music heard by the public.

As the former front man of the band Whiskey Harbour, Savage Grace and then, Pat Peltier & The Grace, he now has his own self titled debut album called "Turn It Up" which was just recently released on October 17, 2009. This album is a compilation of original material with a wide variety of musical arrangements from classic rock to good old fashioned ballads.
