Biography

Billy Leblanc, better known as Rellik, is an emcee from Edmonton, Alberta. He got into Hip Hop at 11, started DJʼing and rapping at 14 and was producing by 16. Throughout his career he has rapped alongside Talib Kwali, RA the Rugged Man and Kardinal Offishall also proudly shared the stage with some childhood heroes such as Run DMC, Casual and the Hieroglyphics. Co-founder of one of Edmontonʼs longest running rap groups 118 which released two albums Project 118: Return to Edlantis in 1999 and Dirty Boulevard in 2005. He has been performing live shows and recording tracks for nearly a decade. Signed with New Leaf Entertainment in 2005 and now Independant, his long awaited debut album “Mighty Mouth” is scheduled for release in early 2011. Rellik is a gifted wordsmith known for his quick witted and gritty punch-lines. No stranger to adversity he has transcribed his experiences growing up in low income housing to getting custody of his boys, into hard hitting lyrics skillfully spit with emotion and determination. Raised on Cree principles, Rellik is of Irish and Sioux descent and does not feel the need to write exclusively about either. “While I am still in touch with my aboriginal roots, I feel I need to write material that all hip hop listeners can relate to regardless of their ethnic background or experiences”. These lyrics from his song Thank You is a minor preview of what is to come from his soon to be released album “Mighty Mouth” which shines a light on his character as he has struggled to survive. After a long life in the fast lane he grew up, looked to his children for inspiration to turn his life around and decided to live positively: “Thanks to my kids who know I do what I do, for the time I couldn’t spend Daddy’s doing this for you. In hopes that we can get out this hood together, not get rich just live a little better...” Rellik has a rare gift in composing lyrics that not only get in your face but get right under your skin. His gut wrenching messages are carefully placed ontop of beats masterly arranged so the listener is barely aware of the impact his words bare, often until the second or third take.

A seasoned performer with hundreds of high energy performances tucked under his belt he turns wordplay into a craft with ease. Rellik’s sound is often compared to RA the Rugged Man and Aesop Rock. His professionalism in the studio and on stage promises to seduce mainstream markets not only in Canada and the US but overseas as well.
