Biography

Richard Monkman was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He currently resides in Edmonton, Alberta and it is here that he has been fortunate enough to have performed with and learned from some of Edmontons' finest musicians which has enabled him to grow and develope much of his musical abilities. Through his studies and related experiances he has assumed the roles of: Guitarist Producer Songwriter Bandleader Teacher Session musician

Throughout his career he has fronted or performed with various musical groups from jazz quartets to folk duos. He is also currently working on his first practice/study Book which he hopes to have completed by early 2009. Along with his own projects Richard Monkman also plays in a cover/original rock band. Which has opened for Harlequin, Trooper, Alannah Myles and Lee Aaron to name a few. "Beyond his eclectic composing style, Monkman's clean, intelligent guitar lines are very appealing whether he's heading into improvised territory or going for tuneful hooks". The Edmonton Journal Highlights 2008 Oct.23 2nd CD release "Graffiti Logic" at the Blue Chair 2004 National Aboriginal Days Performed in front of 5,000 people at Canada place and Legislature Grounds as well as A-Channel, Global, CFRN, and CBC were all in attendance at this week long event Known as National Aboriginal Days.

2003 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards "Nominee" Best Instrumental Album Best Blues Album Appeared in Grant MacEwan Community Colleges' 25th Anniversary CD Appeared in Short film, Which earned first place at the 1997 Calgary film festival. (Titled: Magic Metronome) Producer: Ian Strange Awarded scholarships three out of four years at Grant MacEwan Community College

Grant MacEwan Community College Jazz program Composition, Recording and Performance: 1991-1995 R.B.Russell Vocatioonal high school: Music Major 1985-1991 Studied with Bill Wallace (The Guess Who) and Greg Lowe (Lincolns) in Winnipeg and Tom Gilroy and Bobby Cairns in Edmonton as well as Geordy Haley in Toronto.
