Biography

Ryan D'Aoust is an 18-year-old left-handed fiddler from Norway House, Manitoba. Playing since he was 10 and a half, Ryan has played and studied with such fiddle greats as Calvin Volrath (Grand North American Old Tyme Fiddle Champion), John Arcand (Master Metis Fiddle Player) and his special instructor Cameron Baggins.

Playing at numerous special events across the North including fundraisers, weddings, jig festivals, square dance and open fiddle competitions, Ryan has developed a distinctive style that's both smooth and innovative.

With musical bloodlines in his immediate family, his father and grandfather both played the fiddle, Ryan's talent and love of music comes naturally. As a quick study, Ryan's growth as a musician and student of the art continues to grow at a phenomenal rate.

Part of Ryan's music education has come by participating as a member of the Frontier School Division's "Frontier Fiddlers". Ryan has participated in two previous CD projects with the Fiddlers and looks forward to his high school years in the Frontier School Division' music program.

Ryan' Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards award wins for "est Fiddle Album"and the "Galaxie Rising Star" is truly remarkable for someone so young, but to be a finalist along side on of your mentors who is a Metis fiddle legend at that is our of this world. Ryan's talent has not gone un-noticed as he was been invited to play at the awards show in Toronto last year.

2005 & 2006 were a fabulous years for young Ryan as he won first place at the Festival Du Voyageur fiddle contest in the 18 under category as well as his wins at the CAMA's in Toronto. 2007 is starting off with a bang as he plans his follow up CD "York Boats & Legends" scheduled for release in June 2007. Legends shall include four new compositions as well as three special arrangements of traditional tunes and three more straight up traditional tunes.

With plans to perform and tour in 2007 solo and with his brothers award winning band Highway 373, Ryan will undoubtedly make his mark on the Aboriginal / Metis music scene once again. To be this talented at such a young age is truly a gift and we look forward to the many albums and years of entertainment from Ryan D'Aoust. Please enjoy this wonderful and spirited tribute to some of the best fiddle music ever written.
