Biography
Segweh has had a vision for sometime now... The members are best of friends and completely support one another. This loyalty and perseverance is demonstrated in the maturity of their music, and in the professional manner in which the band presents itself on and off the stage. Segweh’s core is comprised of 4 musicians (Neewa Mason, Atik Mason, Lyall Catagas, Marc Baureiss) and between them, have earned numerous awards including several Canadian Aboriginal Music awards, a Western Canadian Music Award, and Canada’s most prestigious Juno Award from previous musical endeavours. Segweh is proud to say that their debut album earned their first two nominations (Best Rock Album, Best New Group/Duo) and won their first award in 2010 for Best Rock Album of the Year at the NAMMY's. They also earned a nomination nod for Best Rock Album at the NAIIA (North American Indigenous Image Awards) in 2011. Segweh is also proud to say that two of their songs off their debut album, have broken into the top ten on the National Aboriginal Music Countdown, with “Feels Like Rain” reaching number 6, and “Open Eye” climbing all the way to number 2. Segweh is constantly brainstorming and creating new ways to enhance their ideas. There are many other resources that will become available as we go along our musical journey that we will utilize to help us thrive and grow, helping us to enrich our dream and continue to share and touch people lives with the gift of music.
Segweh prides themselves of working together as one solid unit, creating songs and gathering knowledge from one another to create a sound that is like no other. You can’t help but feel the energy flow through you when you listen…..
