Upon struggles, trials and tribulations, learned to walk in the ghetto streets of Winnipeg, Manitoba and there for learned to speak on behalf of the street life. The group consist's of 6 members, 5 which are the voice of choice and 1 on the wheels of steel. They are Henny Soprano, Tragik, Insayn, M.I.A, King D, and DJ Sandman.
In early 2003, Skelpa Squad made an approach to take their music to a higher level, creating buzz in and out of the ghetto streets and taking it to the people who cannot understand the struggles of a ghetto child growing up. From dealing drugs, seeing death before their very eyes, growing up in poverty stricken homes, always having to live looking over their shoulder, they became to communicate through writing rhymes, and making beats.
In 2006, Skelpa Squad's Debut Album "One Army," became a nominee for Best Rap or Hip-Hop Album at the First Annual Aboriginal Peoples Choice Awards. Skelpa Squad's sophomore album "A New Beginning" brought a harder hitting sound for aboriginal youth. "A New Beginning" won Best Rap or HipHop Album at the 2007 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. In late 2009, After playing countless shows across Canada and parts of the U.S. Skelpa Squad released it's latest album "Born To Do It," and signed to Urbnrg Records from Winnipeg, Mb. “Born To Do It” received 5 nominations at the 2009 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards. Now, in 2010, Skelpa Squad have released their 3rd effort, entitled “Tha Thief & Counzil,” with Canadian distrobution via Urbnrg/Sunshine Records. Which is the crews strongest performance yet. Be on the look out for Skelpa Squad in a city/town/rez near you. They are constantly on the road.
