Biography

Ralph Zotigh, the lead singer of the Zotigh Singers, was instrumental in bringing the pow-wow tradition in the southwest. Originally form Hobart, Oklahoma, he has lent his family name, Zotigh (Zoe-tai) to his drum group, which consists of singers, who represent many south-western tribes. They reside in Albuquerque, New Mexico area.

The Zotigh Singers formally organized in 1996. In 1997 they won the prestigious Southern Singing Championships at the Gathering of Nations, recognized as the world’s largest pow-wow. Since their inception, they have won numerous singing awards and have been asked to serve as host drum for major pow-wows coast to coast. Zotigh singers are also known for their exceptional strong women back-up singers who won the 2003 Denver March Wica-gla-ta “Women Back-up Singing Championship”.

T o date, the Zotigh Singers have produced five (5) CD’s under the Indian House, Sweet Grass and Cool Running’s recording labels. The Zotigh Singers blend a rich combination of Ralph’s knowledge and experience ‘at the drum’ and the talented voices of his young singers to produce a wide variety of songs. Individual singers from the drum have composed all their original songs.

The Zotigh Singers not only share their music on the pow-wow trail, but also stay active within the local Albuquerque community and in the southwest area sharing the music with school children, city, and state-wide community events. They share in and enjoy the family oriented atmosphere relationship they maintain as a group as they share their talents, prayers, healing, and goodwill.
